Our focus lies in designing advanced electrochemical water treatment solutions that harness the power of graphene-based electrodes, with a specific mission to eliminate Per and Poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water sources.

There are over 17.000 “hotspots” thoughtout Europe as well as around 4.700 sites in the USA contaminated with levels of PFAS hazardous to health and environment. So far, the prevailing method for addressing PFAS involves an inefficient process of separation using absorbents. These PFAS-laden absorbents are either reintroduced into landfills post-separation or incinerated, resulting in the release of harmful aerosols into the air.

At GRAPHEC, we have developed a modular and robust system that addresses this concern with efficiency and precision using only current to break the strong carbon-fluorine bonds that make PFAS so persistent. One of the key advantages of our electrochemical water treatment solutions is the ability to degrade these forever chemicals without generating toxic and persistent organochlorine by-products. We are committed to not only eliminating the immediate threat of PFAS but also ensuring that our treatment processes contribute positively to the overall environmental landscape. Nick Duinslaeger. CEO

The driving force.

Bioengineer from the KU Leuven, Belgium, with 9 years of relevant work experience among others at Veolia Water Technologies as a project engineer. His PhD focused on the development of novel anode materials and design of nano-electrochemical systems for wastewater treatment, capable of degrading PFASs. As CEO is dedicated to pushing boundaries, fostering creativity, and making a positive impact with GRAPHEC.

Elisabeth Lumbaque. COO

Organization is her middle name.

Elisabeth has a Ph.D. in Chemistry, and her research is focused on analytical and environmental chemistry, and fate and degradation of emerging contaminants in advanced oxidation processes, including the identification of their transformation products. She also has experience in experimental optimization, chromatography, (Q)SAR tools for toxicity risk and science education.
